About Red Fortress Property Management
At Red Fortress Property Management, property management isn’t just a service — it’s a legacy.
Founded in the 1980s by Jon McVety, our company was born from a vision to build long-term wealth through real estate — the American dream. Jon’s journey from working full-time and a part-time investor to becoming professional property manager led to the early formation of an entire industry. In fact, he helped found the National Association of Residential Property Managers (NARPM) in October 1988, a national organization still dedicated to raising standards and educating property managers across the country.
Today, Red Fortress is led by his son, Michael McVety, a second-generation property manager with over 25 years of hands-on experience managing rentals and owning investment properties throughout Southwest Florida. Michael has held leadership roles at the local, state, and national levels of NARPM and is widely regarded as an expert in the field — frequently speaking at conferences, interviewed by local news sources and consulting with other professionals to elevate the industry. Michael has been local President 5 times, Florida State President in 2005 and continues to serve on local and national property management committees today.
But what truly sets Red Fortress apart is our focus. Unlike many sales-focused brokerages that treat property management as an afterthought, our sole focus is professional property management. We believe property owners deserve more than most companies give — they deserve strategic guidance, market insight, and a management team that treats their investment like our own. Michael McVety has been a property manager for over 25 years and is President of Red Fortress Property Management. Red Fortress has been doing property management exclusively for nearly 40 years. In 1996, Red Fortress was awarded the CRMC (Certified Residential Management Company) designation by National Association of Residential Property Managers (NARPM) - the fourth in the nation. Red Fortress is family owned and family run company that started in 1985.
Michael continues to serve as a leader in the property management industry today. He has been President of the Southwest Florida Chapter of NARPM 5 separate times while serving in some capacity for 25 years. He was state President for the Florida Chapter in 2005 and served as a state director for 12 years. He was Vice- President of the Southwest Florida Apartment Association and has sat on the National Certification Committee, the National Communications Committee and the National Finance Committee for NARPM. He has mentored companies trying to get their professional CRMC designation as well. He is the Legislative Chair for the Southwest Chapter of NARPM and a member of the National Finance committee currently.
Michael has been a professional speaker for property managers, apartment associations, condominium and real estate investment groups. He has his Florida Real Estate broker’s license, Residential Management Professional (RMP) designation and is qualified as a Master Property Manager (MPM). There are fewer than 200 in the United States. Michael has been interviewed by NPR and local Fox and Wink News for his views on real estate and property management.
Michael is a father of 3 teenagers and when he is not learning or teaching, Michael is a certified level 4 ice hockey coach and has coached youth hockey for over 20 years.
